Today I went out on my own and took a day trip back down south. I rode the same highway that we were on last night. I went about 50 miles outside of town to a wildlife rehab type place. Here, injured animals are brought back to good health and I think released back into the wild. Even though there was a fence between us, being three feet from a grizzly bear is a magical experience. These bears are very good looking animals. Slow moving but a little playful with each other. They came out because of the people standing around, but once they realized there was no food they went back into hiding in there 18 acres of woods.

After the wildlife stop, I got back on the road and came upon another moose in the road. I tried to get close but he would rather run into the woods than pose for me. I moved on to a split in the road and I choose to go left into a very small town named Whittier. All that goes on here is a cruise ship stop and a few little restaurants and shops. Lots of fishing boats are here but not many people live in the town. To get here I had to pay 12 dollars to ride through a 2.5 mile single lane tunnel. This tunnel is used by trains, cars, and motorcycles. I had to be careful and hold my line because the railroad tracks can catch your front wheel and toss you off. So I stayed in between the rails and maintained the 25 max speed limit until I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. I had to spend about an hour in the the small town because of the tunnel schedule. I got a coffee and talked to a few people as they passed by and looked at my Georgia license plate. I had a nice time and enjoyed stopping whenever I wanted to to take pictures along the way. Once again the weather has been great up here. The temp are cool and the sun shined all day.

After we were sitting around surfing the net and watching more TV, we got a wild hair and decided to go for a ride down south along the Cook Inlet, to see the sun setting on the mountains. We had some pizza in a small town named, Girdwood. Two friends of Mark's showed up and we traded motorcycle stories and even did some bike swapping. After all that we got back on the road and stopped a few times to get some good shots of the inlet with the late day sun. It was around 11:15 in most of the photos. Now it's 11:45 and the sun is still shining through the window.
So after a nice long bike ride and now a nice short motor ride, I am ready for some good sleep. Tomorrow I might head south and visit a wildlife area about 50 miles south of town. I might just see the grizzly bear I have been searching for.
