The past day 1/2 on the ferry has been a relaxing time traveling. We have been weaving through the Inside passage of Alaska also called Alaska’s Marine Highway. The views are full with mountains covered in evergreen trees with rocky coastlines lining the islands. Many of the mountaintops still have snow covering the tops. I didn’t get to see any bears or humpback whales but we saw plenty of bald eagles. I look forward to a proper grizzly bear sighting when we get on the mainland. We made stops in a few towns along the way stepping off for a quick visit and a bite to eat instead of spending top dollar on the sub par boat food. We have made some friends on the boat from all over the world; we even got a place to stay while in Aspen Colorado when we get back to the states next month. There are only a handful of motorcyclists aboard; most of the people here are driving motor homes. The six BMW gs’s are a great conversation piece for most people. They want to ask questions pertaining to gas mileage or comfort over long distances. Everyone seems to have a story to tell us about there trips on motorcycles.
A nice couple I met from Australia became very jealous of our journey after talking with us and missing his BMW back home.
This boat ride has been a good forced rest for the group. We only see each other in passing or at meals in the cafeteria. The space is good for the upcoming month of close quarters living and riding while we navigate the huge state of Alaska. We had a meeting at lunch where we discussed the possibility of not going all the way to the Arctic ocean, but rather make the Arctic circle our northern most point. The weather here has been very cold and wet, and the road to the ocean is dirt and becomes very slippery and dangerous when wet. None of us wants to endanger ourselves, or this trip just for bragging rights.
